Letter #2

January 11, 2011

last night I thought I saw you on the train

red-headed and cradling  Chomsky

with a paper bag of groceries

squeezed  between your knees

you glanced my way,   looked away

then glanced again

I was trying to decipher the title

through  your fingers, wondering if

we were   still meeting Thursday

morning at the park, to read the same novel

to see how fast, how soon one of us

can reach the end

and argue over exegesis

later,

as we undressed

I kind of love the poem. I don’t know why but “red-headed and cradling Chomsky” seem very right together.

Is the painting a web model?
