Freedom In Bondage

December 17, 2010

You create a universe, you grant yourself freedom, while simultaneously creating a prison.

Loneliness beyond loneliness- you become granite, a part of the landscape. Is it heroic, or tragic?

Self-sufficiency always has a tragic side.

Who is labeling you?  The world, or yourself? Either way, you are peeling labels for more labels. Where is the real you?

You can’t step out of the Real, like stepping out of river, as that old Greek once said. He was wrong.  The Real and time flows on, and you are swimming or drowning in it.

You peel and peel until there is no more.

In that nothingness, you realize the sum of all those layers torn was YOU. You can only add to it , not diminish.

I just finished the painting above,  18×20, oil on canvas. I also just started a series of portraits done through web cams with random volunteers. I believe this is a first. I’m not aware of anyone else doing this before. Another use for technology.

My first subject:

12/19   started a second webcam- based portrait  ( in progress )
